JB AH MENG: MUST-TRY MICHELIN ZI CHAR AT GEYLANG (FEAT. WHITE PEPPER CRAB)

Local Zi Char stalls and restaurants can be found at literally almost every corner of the island but few have impressed as JB Ah Meng Kitchen has.
The restaurant is located not in JB (despite the name) but at the heart of Geylang, a prominent corner unit along Geylang Lor 30.
The success and popularity of the Zi Char restaurant is largely apparent as it even won a Michelin Bib Gourmand award in 2016.
Here's a feature of undoubtedly their HOT FAVOURITE dishes, and I assure you they will not disappoint!
//KING PORK RIBS// $12/$18/$24
If you really enjoy a good dish of sweet and sour pork ribs like I do, you'll definitely enjoy the King Pork Ribs! Really tender, tasty, and juicy! Nope can't go wrong!
//JB SAN LOU MEEHOON// $7/$11/$14
Now this is JB Ah Meng's Signature Dish!!! I know, it looks a little weird, like crumpled-up over-friend mee. I personally thought it tasted really unique, you don't get to try this rendition of fried bee hoon often. Mixed well with shrimp, egg, and hidden veg (yep that's right), the San Lou Meehoon was really flavourful, just a nice little burnt texture yet moist inside. Got to try it for yourself!
//SALTED EGG PRAWN BALL// $20/$30/40
I really enjoy a good dry version of a salted egg dish. I know many prefer the 'wetter' version, but I believe that Salted Egg Prawns do taste better when coated this way! This dish was extremely delicious and addictive, the crispy batter of the large prawns and corn well coated with the delicious salted egg flavouring!
//WHITE PEPPER CRAB//
First time trying white pepper crab for me, and it was a refreshing change of taste! The white pepper was indeed powerfully peppery yet not overwhelming, and it created a really unique and distinct taste when well-seasoned with the satisfyingly meaty crab! May get a little 'gelat' if you eat too much at one go cause of the white pepper, so pace yourself and savour this dish!
This is definitely a must try!
JB Ah Meng is somewhere you have to head to when dinner-ing in Geylang (if you don't already know about this place!!). Be warned though, please go early to avoid long long queues! They open daily at 530pm, all the way till 230am in the morning! Perfect supper place aye!
Geylang is truly one of Singapore's food havens with never-ending food options; Kuay Teow, Frog Porridge, White Pepper Crab, stall after stall of Durian..... I really need to go back there sometime to hunt for more good food! Mmm..
