Chinatown is bustling with a wide variety of multi-awarded local delights. One of the 3 main Food Centres here is Hong Lim Food Centre (Upper Cross Street), possibly less visited than Chinatown Complex and People's Park Food Centre, but there are many gems here to be discovered! On a typical working day, the lunch-time queues can get insanely long!

Located along Upper Cross Street and tucked at the corner of the second-level Food Centre is the modest Tuck Kee (Ipoh) Hor Fun. 

This hawker stall is so popular and successful that it only opens slightly under 4 hours everyday from 11am-245pm!

The stall is popular for its Hor Fun and has received multiple awards and recognitions in recent years. 

Typical weekday queues peak around lunchtime from 12-2pm, so be prepared to brave the lunchtime office crowd!

Tried both the Chicken Prawn as well as Crayfish Prawn Hor Fun, their top 2 best-sellers! What I absolutely love about this Ipoh Hor Fun is that it actually has a really tasty flavour as it is rich in ingredients!

The brown gravy was perfect for me- tasty and not overly thick or rich.

The Hor Fun noodles were quite thin and a little mashy but I was fine with that.

I feel that the game-changer here though was the good mix of fried onions and chilli that made the overall combination with the gravy so fragrant and delicious!!

The prawns and crayfish were also large, fresh and juicy. I feel that the price of the dish was actually quite value for money!

There are many popular stalls at Hong Lim food centre and Tuck Kee's Ipoh Hor Fun is definitely one to try!

Local Zi Char stalls and restaurants can be found at literally almost every corner of the island but few have impressed as JB Ah Meng Kitchen has. 

The restaurant is located not in JB (despite the name) but at the heart of Geylang, a prominent corner unit along Geylang Lor 30.

Now this is JB Ah Meng's Signature Dish!!! I know, it looks a little weird, like crumpled-up over-friend mee. I personally thought it tasted really unique, you don't get to try this rendition of fried bee hoon often. Mixed well with shrimp, egg, and hidden veg (yep that's right), the San Lou Meehoon was really flavourful, just a nice little burnt texture yet moist inside. Got to try it for yourself!

I really enjoy a good dry version of a salted egg dish. I know many prefer the 'wetter' version, but I believe that Salted Egg Prawns do taste better when coated this way! This dish was extremely delicious and addictive, the crispy batter of the large prawns and corn well coated with the delicious salted egg flavouring!
