TAI CHEONG BAKERY OPENS FIRST CHA CHAAN TENG IN SINGAPORE @ HOLLAND V!
Tuesday, January 10, 2017
Good news everyone! Tai Cheong Bakery from Hong Kong has just opened their first 'Cha Chaan Teng eatery' at Holland Village!
Famous for their egg tarts, Tai Cheong first opened a stall at Takashimaya earlier last year and they were so popular among Singaporeans that they decided to open a full dine-in eatery shortly after.
At any time of the day, expect the eatery to be packed! I was there on a Monday afternoon and the indoor seating area was a full-house! There was also a long queue at the take away counter with most customers ordering their signature egg tarts.
Traditional-looking Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng.
I really like how they designed the eatery to look exactly like the ones in HK with the tiled floors and booths. Gives the place a very vintage-classic HK eatery feel.
To add to the HK feels, the service at Tai Cheong was EXACTLY like the ones in HK. Everything was pretty intense and the server came up to ask for our orders 3 times in less than 5 min even though we weren't ready.
They even suggested we share tables with other customers as the indoor area was full but we decided to sit outside instead.
I guess a full HK eatery experience isn't complete without the intense fast-paced service!
Tai Cheong serves their baked pastries and drinks all day while their mains are only available during lunch (11am-230pm) and dinner (530-930pm) timings
Expect the food to arrive at lightning speed! HK style!
//HONG KONG MILK TEA// $2.50 (Hot) $2.80 (Cold)
//SIGNATURE EGG TARTS// $1.90 per tart
If you're coming to Tai Cheong bakery, there's no way you're not trying their signature egg tarts! Freshly baked on the spot, their egg tarts are so good because the crust is thick, crumbly-like-a-cookie, and fragrant! The egg custard is also really soft and smooth with the perfect level of sweetness! With the tarts warm and freshly baked, they're simply mouthwatering and addictive with every bite!
Unfortunate for us customers, they only allow each dine-in customer to order a maximum of 2 signature egg tarts, to prevent them from running out too quickly! If you want to order more you can simply take-away a box or two! ($7.60 for a box of 4)
Warm, fragrant and crumbly crusts with ultra smooth egg custard!
Rating: 8.5/10
//DURIAN & CHEESE TART// $3.60 per tart
Many of you may have tried cheese baked tarts that have been popping up all over town lately but here's adding some durian goodness to that! With a combination of durian paste + a cheesecake-like interior, and a warmly-baked fragrant crust, this is surely one very interesting tart to savour!
Rating: 7.5/10
//CHAR SIEW BOLO BUN// $2.20
Another really classic HK snack is the Bolo Bun. The Bolo Buns at Tai Cheong come with either butter or char siew fillings, both at the same price.
The Bolo Buns are quite big with a generous amount of fillings. The bun was soft with a crispy & flaky biscuit-like skin to hold the really tasty and juicy char siew bits inside.
Rating: 8/10
At lunch and dinner timings, Tai Cheong also serves classic HK delicacies such as Scrambled Egg Toast with Chicken Chop ($9.50), French Toast ($6.50), and Three Egg Macaroni Soup with Luncheon Meat ($8.50).
Tai Cheong Bakery @ Holland V really offers an authentic Hong Kong 'Cha Chaan Teng' experience like no other as you immerse yourself into their culture, savouring authentic HK pastries as well as delicacies, served to you in traditional HK style- and by that I mean at the utmost efficient manner!
On top of that, best egg tarts I've tried in awhile!
