PICNIC SINGAPORE: ORCHARD ROAD'S NEWEST FOOD HALL

Friday, December 23, 2016

How would you like to dine in an air-conditioned park?

Picnic SG is the newest food hall to open along Orchard Road (Nov 2016) and is located on the third floor of Wisma Atria.

Entrance of Picnic

This beautifully-themed food hall has caught the attention of many due to its elaborately and uniquely decorated interior, making it look like a modern park. Picnic has a total of 3 seating zones (themes):

Flower Garden
Picnic Area
Beer Garden

They even have a stage area for events and parties, which comes with projector screens, a professional sound system and customised lighting.

Picnic-style dining

They have normal seatings in case you aren't a fan of the garden-y area

The concept of this food hall is similar to other familiar ones such as Marche, Pasar Bella, and Timbre+ where you order your food at various food trucks or stalls before collecting a buzzer and waiting for your food.

There are a total of 13 food trucks and stalls at Picnic, with a rather wide variety of cuisines ranging from Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, to Western food. Each stall has its own self-order kiosk for you to place your order.

Fried Chicken Sets

Taco Meals

Taiwan Food

They even have a bar corner in the food hall

I must say that the aesthetics of this place is really attractive and appealing, making the dining experience all the more interesting as compared to most other places such as your typical food courts.

Of course, you won't be finding food court prices here, with most meals costing between $10-$16. I tried food from 2 stalls and although I wouldn't say the standard of the food is amazing, it is reasonably decent. I guess since the food hall is new, they are probably still working on creating an ideal experience for diners, including quality of food as well as ease of ordering them (the kiosks might be a little slow, and expect to wait awhile before collecting your food).

//BUTA DON// $14

Strips of juicy pork belly collar and loin marinated in a traditional tare sauce and caramelised over a searing grill

Tasty, but portion a little small (for me)

//SPAGHETTI & MEATBALLS// $15

Tomato Sauce, Slow-cooked beef meatballs and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese

//ICED LATTE// $5.50

Bar drinks and coffee

Overall, I would say that dining at Picnic offers a very unique experience, and is a pretty (literally) cool place to hang out with friends over a meal or drinks. It is also an ideal place for you to hold events and parties.

However, I generally find the food a little on the pricey side for what you're getting. Also, I personally feel that the number of food stalls to choose from is a little limited.
Still, Picnic is really cool place to hang out and you should definitely check it out at least once because of their really unique interior and excellent ambience! Definitely an ideal place for you to snap a few photos as well!
