I really enjoy visiting cafes at obscure locations, especially those hidden amongst nature or within heartlands. There's always this unique local vibe that cafes in heartlands give off to reflect the personality and feel of their neighbourhood.
It's difficult to miss the entrance of the modern-looking cafe within the rather old neighbourhood central
A really small but nicely decorated cafe with only 6 tables
The food menu was really really extensive with 15 dishes under the 'Signature' column alone. Some recommended dishes include 'Ramly Meets Wendy Burger' ($16), 'Chilli Crab Burger' ($18), 'Buffalo Wings Waffles' ($14), and 'Chicken Chop' ($15). Their Truffle Fries ($9) are also a popular pick!
We went for some of the popular mains but were mindful to save space for dessert!
//CHICKEN CHOP// $15/$17 (With 2 Fried Eggs)
Grilled chicken thigh with sauce served with wedges and coleslaw. Add 2 sunny side ups for that extra oomph! Choice between black pepper or mushroom sauce.
Recently, I've been experiencing a mini chicken chop craze (blame it on IT Roo Cafe), so whenever I see recommended chicken chop dishes on menus I feel really inclined to give it a try and compare between cafes!
To my delight, the chicken was tender, tasty, and served as a really huge portion! What made the dish good for me was the black pepper sauce. It really hit the taste buds strongly, inducing a strong peppery aftertaste that I appreciated.

The menu suggested that the chicken chop be paired up with their Signature Root Beer Float ($6.50) so I ordered it along with the dish. To be honest, the float was really disappointing. Maybe I should have tried their interesting Bandung Soda Float ($6.50) instead!
//RAMLY MEETS WENDY BURGER// $16
A twist to the famous Ramly Burger- Beef patty wrapped in omelette served with shiitake mushrooms, wedges and tomatoes
You get the option of upgrading the fries to Truffle Fries for $3 or Cheesy Wedges/Fries for $1.50
The combination of the juicy beef patty with egg omelette and zesty mushroom sauce was perfect for me. Enjoyed the burger a lot and it was very filling! The truffle fries were disappointing though, could barely taste the truffle, but thankfully the burger made up for the small disappointment.

A cafe meal is never complete without dessert. Personally, I go to cafes mainly to try the desserts while the mains are kinda like the fillers that are good to have but not compulsory.
Dessert and Drinks menu
So easily spoilt for choice yet again with another extensive dessert menu, featuring signature
desserts such as their Butterscotch Soufflé ($14), Kebaboom Lava Cake ($16), Ondeh Ondeh Waffles ($12), as well as various Churros on their Churros menu.
Without any hesitation, I ordered what I came to order:
//ONDEH ONDEH WAFFLES// $12
Pandan Waffles served with Gula Melaka ice cream, topped with Gula Melaka sauce and coconut flakes
Ondeh Ondeh is a traditional rice cake snack that can be found in countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei. It is a boiled rice cake stuffed with gula melaka (liquid palm sugar) and rolled in grated coconut. If you're Singaporean and haven't tried ondeh ondeh before, that would definitely be unforgivable!
The Ondeh Ondeh Waffles at Butterscotch tasted EXACTLY like the traditional snack.
The pandan waffles were really special due to its soft and slightly crumbly texture. The pandan taste was also very rich and it went perfectly hand-in-hand with the gula melaka sauce sprinkled all over.
I felt that this was a really successful attempt at capturing the traditional ondeh ondeh flavour and reconstructing it as a waffle dish.
Coupled with gula melaka flavoured ice cream (my first time trying such a flavour) and priced at only $12, this is ondeh ondeh waffles at its finest and really value for money!
Rating: 8/10
Am thankful to have satisfied my ondeh ondeh waffle cravings at butterscotch and my desire to always try out new and interesting foods around Singapore!
Overall, the food was decently good and my cafe experience a pleasant one, thanks to the ondeh ondeh waffles that have left a lasting impression on me!
